In a candid and exclusive conversation on Bollywood Hungama’s podcast, Karan Johar said, “It's very difficult. I mean the fact that you have the biggest film of the year is War 2 and it has Junior NTR and Hrithik Roshan in the same frame—that is like bang for buck. You got two of the biggest stars from two different strong cinemas coming together that is like beyond a wish list to have like. It’s like wow.”

Johar explained the complexities behind this challenge, noting that “you’re fighting so many” factors. He added, “It doesn’t happen to bring two lead actors or two lead actresses in one film. (It) is just difficult today. You know you’re fighting so many… Firstly, you have like actors who have their own strategies, thoughts, ideologies. Then you have people advising them that are telling them this that…”

The filmmaker lamented, “In those days, no one thought so much. When Shah Rukh said yes to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G), he didn't even read the script. He knew there were other actors, it was like going on the fact that ‘yeh Karan ki film hai, karte hai’. Shah Rukh still has that way of approaching a film. He likes the person; he'll do the film. But today people are overthinking, overanalysing, over expecting, over box officing, over everything and therefore not overachieving because you’re overthinking.”
